How to Properly Load a Moving Pod

If you rented a pod for moving, and when the pod has arrived, you’re unsure how to properly stack the moving pod, here is a strategy that can help you.

First of all, as movers advise, you have to find a base to stack the boxes on. Usually, dressers or anything with a flat surface on top will be a good example of it. So pretty much, first things first, you want to put all the furniture with a flat surface inside the pod on the entry level.

Once you’ve brought all the furniture inside and just put it in one row, you can fill up two rows at a time.

Then, on top of the dresser, you can stack boxes and bags with clothes. We would recommend putting medium-heavy boxes on top of the dressers and any other furniture that you can put on.

Do not put boxes with books and any other heavy stuff on top of the dressers because while they will be transporting the pod, the weight of the books can damage and destabilize the dresser itself, so it will be wobbly at the end.

If you move the pod, there’s also a good idea to empty the dressers because it will reduce the weight that the dresser carries, and while the truck with the pod will be on the road, it will be shaken from end to end. So if you have space, we would recommend removing clothes out of the drawers.

What to do if the movers didn’t show up?

Advice number three is to put light stuff on top of your load. In this case, the lightest stuff will be on the top shelf. As an example, you can use a pyramid, with the heaviest items at the bottom and the lightest stuff on the top.

If you’re moving the bed and you disassemble the bedframe, you can stack this in the corner or to the side. Make sure all the dressers are protected with pads. You can also use your blankets or any other moving pads that you can buy from the store or you can rent from the pod containers. Do not underestimate how useful moving blankets can be because those will save your furniture from dents and all the scratches.

Pods are not responsible for any damages that can happen during moving, transporting, and unloading the pod.

On the very top, you can always put bags with clothes, all of the lightest stuff like Christmas decorations or any items that are not heavy.

Pretty much, stacking the load in the pod is just a game like people used to play in Tetris. It’s pretty much the same game that you’re playing but with the furniture. Square stuff is easier and the most stackable, so we would recommend using it as an absolute base. Then, in the middle row, you can put boxes, and on top of it, you can put bags.

What to do if the movers didn’t show up?

Make sure to use every single space that’s available.

We also highly suggest you use and buy moving straps in order to secure the cargo inside the pod. Because otherwise, the stuff will be moving while the truck is on the road, and something might fall or break, and we highly suggest you secure cargo inside the pod with straps.

Also, just a reminder to at least put shrink wrap on your dressers or something to cover up your furniture if you don’t want it to be damaged.

If you’re moving a couch, and if you have a chance to put it on the side and stand it up vertically, by doing that you will save some space, and please remove legs from the couch.

If you are moving the mattress, that’s an awesome example of how you can secure your load by putting your mattress on the side. In this case, it will secure all the boxes from falling.

Also, we would recommend using mattress covers to protect your mattress from dust and possible leaks when you are renting the pod.

If you don’t want to carry the boxes, you can get a dolly in order to move your heaviest stuff and reduce physical activity. If you want to fit most of the stuff, you might as well juggle with switching dressers and put them on the side instead of at an angle. In this case, you might save some space, but every situation is different, and this is our guide on how to stock a pod by yourself or with a friend.
